This study focuses on women who are legislative members of Pangkalpinang's Regional House of Representatives, later called DPRD, particularly on their representation and roles in performing legislative duties. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the feasibility of achieving women's political representation in the Pangkalpinang's DPRD.
The following is a full description of the issues that serve as the foundation for this study: 1) How is the 2024 Pangkalpinang's Regional House of Representatives procedure for women's political representation going? 2) What are the obstacles that hinder women's political representation in the Regional House of Representatives in Pangkalpinang? A qualitative descriptive research method was the methodology employed in this study. In-depth interviews, observations, and documentation were used as data collection methods. Additionally, the collected data underwent multiple stages of analysis, including data presentation, data condensation, and conclusion or verification drawing.
It can be inferred from the findings of the research that women's representation in the Pangkalpinang's DPRD in 2024 has yet to meet the 30% minimum requirement set forth in Law Number 12 of 2003. Of the thirty legislative seats available, women only hold four of them. The few policies that are focused on women's concerns are impacted by this underrepresentation. One strategy to empower women, support them in overcoming obstacles, and improve their quality of life is to share information and experience. For equitable and inclusive representation in decision-making, women's participation in DPRD is crucial. The low representation of women is caused by a number of factors, such as a lack of confidence in one's ability to participate in politics, a lack of external networks that can encourage women to do so, and specific anxieties or worries about elections and political dynamics that women still do not fully comprehend.
