Abstract

Abstract

Women's representation in the 2024 Election in South Bangka Regency affects the political dynamics and involvement of women in the political process in the South Bangka Regency area. The purpose of this study is to identify changes and factors faced by the KPU and Political Parties in achieving better women's representation after the decision. The theory used in this study is the representation theory by Pitkin (1967). This type of research is descriptive qualitative research with a case study approach, where the primary data source is obtained from interviews with informants while the secondary data source is obtained through library materials that can support primary information. The informants in this study were the Chairperson of the KPU, female legislative candidates, coalition parties and the community as voters. The results of this study show changes such as showing the development of the Permanent Candidate List (DCT) of women's representation after the Supreme Court decision, as well as the factors of the General Election Commission in encouraging political parties to represent women in South Bangka Regency. The level of women must have a quota of 30% as mandated in Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning the 2024 Election and KPU Regulation Number 10 of 2023 concerning the Nomination of DPR, Provincial DPRD and Regency/City DPRD has been fulfilled, which is mandatory for political parties that women must be at least 30% or even more than that (Supreme Court, 2023). The presence of these women is one way to increase their participation in the world of politics. As a manifestation of Affirmative Action, the position of women as female representatives in the council plays an important role in participating in the formation of government policies and draft laws related to the problems currently being faced in South Bangka. In addition, in an effort to help women's representation to increase community participation, the South Bangka Regency KPU is holding a political education and socialization program specifically aimed at women. The purpose of this program is to increase women's awareness and understanding of the importance of political participation and to provide them with the skills needed to actively participate in elections.
