Abstract

In legislative elections, kinship politics refers to the use of familial connections and bureaucratic influence by candidates or political parties to secure support and achieve electoral victory. This research aims to identify the forms of utilization and the driving factors of kinship politics based on bureaucratic resources in the legislative elections in South Bangka Regency. The theories used are the Kinship Theory by Schneider (1968) and the Resource Mobilization Theory by Oberschall (1973). The research utilized a qualitative methodology and a descriptive approach, gathering primary data from interviews, observations, and documentation and supplementing it with secondary data from library items that validated the original information. The results of this study revealed that this form of bureaucratic resource- based kinship politics has a significant influence on one's political choices and support. This is exemplified by the provision of family support through resource mobilization. The emergence and success of this resource mobilization theory are determined by five factors social organization movements, leaders and leadership, resources, and resource mobilization. These factors are categorized into five types moral resources, cultural resources, socio- organizational resources, human resources, and material resources. Additionally, networks and participation, as well as opportunities and community capacity, play a significant role. Efforts to offer voting assistance to his family are constrained by regulations and public roles, resulting in suboptimal mobilization by bureaucratic actors. The driving motives for the allocation of bureaucratic resources in kinship politics are evident in the pursuit of power, defensive strategies, and the safeguarding of positions for the involved bureaucratic players. The allocation justifies itself by strengthening the link between the bureaucracy and the legislative branch. The weak recruitment system in political parties, the public's low perception of the political system, and the impact of economic interests create space and opportunities for the growth of kinship politics within the bureaucracy during the 2024 elections. The bureaucracy, which sometimes lacks professionalism, faces a challenge in the run-up to the election.
