Modal Simbolik Tradisi Nganggung Sebagai Bentuk Peneguhan Identitas Budaya Melayu Bangka di Kota Pangkalpinang

Abstract

Nganggung tradition is one of the cultures owned by the Malay community of Bangka Belitung. This tradition has been carried out since generations, in the nganggung tradition there are two values, namely the symbolic value of serving hoods and dulang as a representation of the value of the Bangka Malay community and the value of spirituality as a representation of the value of Islam. The problem that arises is the weak symbolic value, but the strong spiritual value. This weak symbolic value is the focus of this research, namely that there are people who use containers other than serving hoods and dulang. Bourdieu explains that in the realm of society there is a contestation of dominant discourses, in this study the dominant discourse is the Malay identity of Bangka in the practice of Nganggung which is assessed from the serving hood and dulang. Symbolic power theory uses the concepts of habitus, arena, and capital to explain the discourse strategies that develop in society, the dominant discourse is referred to as doxa. Contestation of the dominant discourse forms two discourses, namely heterodoxa and orthodoxa. The results of this study show that the phenomenon of differences in the Nganggung tradition with the use of rice boxes is due to weak individual awareness and the times, besides that there are social group factors between the older and younger generations. The researcher found that in the arena of the nganggung tradition ceremony between the government and the mosque there are differences in public awareness of practicing tudung saji and dulang, at government events it is stronger, while the mosque or surau is the opposite. This causes the contestation of the dominant discourse on the nganggung tradition. Through the discourse of affirming Bangka Malay identity in the nganggung tradition, it can strengthen the role of the government and mosque leaders to control the Nganggung tradition, as well as socialize the discourse contained in tudung saji and dulang as the identity of Bangka Malay society.
